James Algate brings more than 19 years of experience to Hakkasan Group’s executive team. As the Vice President of Music, Algate uses his vast management expertise to develop the world’s best talent working directly with renowned DJs such as Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Hardwell, Steve Aoki among others.

As one of the founding members of Angel Music Group, the company behind some of the most prominent electronic music events around the globe and home to international brands such as GlobalGathering and Godskitchen, his journey in the restaurant and nightlife began in the 1990s. It was Algate’s strong work ethic and continuous search to further his opportunities in the U.K. that has allowed him to thrive in the industry.

Algate’s first career move allowed him to get a taste of nightlife where he worked his way up from a Bar Manager to General Manager of Bar M in Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire in just a few years. From his time here, he helped achieve one of the many awards the bar was given during his duration with the venue, including the “Marketing Pub of the Year” from the well-known U.K. brewer Whitbread in 1999.

In need of a challenge, Algate became a shareholder of Code Nightclub in Birmingham in 2000, where after its opening later in the year exercised his commitment to drive sales and profitability margins. During his initial role with the company, Algate ensured that the club ran effectively, from beverage execution to purchasing procedures and policies.

While continuing to oversee the venue in Birmingham, Algate became the Talent Booker/Promotions Director for Godskitchen worldwide. Overseas expansion of their inaugural U.K. event has since become a multi-award winning festival Global Gathering, which attracted 50,000 people and entertained more than one million festival-goers in 13 countries worldwide. This expansion of the brand led to a number of licensing opportunities around the world. Algate was responsible for arranging talent, contracting to local partners and was lead liaison to gain funding for the events by working to attain sponsorships.

His growth with the brand led him to secure a large sponsorship with Angel Music Group in Warwickshire, England. In 2008, Algate became the Chief Executive Officer of the company as the driving force of its evolution into one of the most influential and successful nightlife institutions in the world. In February 2013, Algate moved to Las Vegas to join Angel Management Group to take on all aspects of electronic music for the nightlife mecca Hakkasan Las Vegas at MGM Grand, which opened to significant fanfare in April 2013
