Since the birth of the company, Hakkasan Group has done its part to help both local and global communities, with events like the Vegas Strong Charity concert in 2017 and annual contributions to charities like Action Against Hunger and Keep Memory Alive. However, it wasn’t until January 2019 that Hakkasan Group formally introduced its philanthropic platform: Hakkasan Group Inspires. The birth of this allowed the establishment of a true mission: “To build a more engaging, purpose-driven company that invests in the success of its employees and communities.”.
Hakkasan Group Inspires is built on four pillars of giving – Community Development, Education, Hunger Relief, and Animal Welfare. By focusing on these four areas, the program strives to create maximum impact without spreading resources too thin. Through Community Development, Hakkasan Group Inspires encourages empowerment and enhancement of human welfare by supporting organizations that seek to improve human needs, economic issues, and environmental programs. The pillar of Education supports advocacy organizations that assist in learning-based initiatives and make quality education easily accessible to all students. In Hunger Relief, the goal is to eradicate food insecurity by partnering with organizations that foster collective action towards ending hunger. Lastly, Animal Welfare involves assistance to programs that help protect and maintain the sanctity of animal welfare and improve quality of life.
The Impact of Hakkasan Group Inspires
By the end of its first year, Hakkasan Group Inspires had created a quantifiable community impact of over $670,000. Hakkasan Group Inspires exceeded its yearly goals by more than 30% last year through sponsoring over 125 charities, hosting a multitude of fundraisers, creating an employee-led charitable contribution fund, and donating pounds of food, beverage, man hours, and over $150,000 to charity events over the year. The most notable events for the program were the construction of a brand new school in Laos for 173 students through the partnership with Pencils of Promise, and an annual Golf Invitational, where the Hakkasan Group nightlife team partnered with Keep Memory Alive to raise $100,000 for the charity whose cause is devoted to improving brain health and finding a cure for memory disorders.
The external impact that the Hakkasan Group Inspires program created was sizeable, but its internal impact on the company felt twice as large. With new employee engagement events implemented as part of the program, the Hakkasan Group family was brought closer together over the course of 2019. From Lunch and Learn sessions held quarterly, to office-wide holiday parties, to a new annual Employee Appreciation Barbecue, employees from venues large to small were united to foster a true sense of community within the company.
Overall, 2019 laid the groundwork for a program that inspires change both locally and around the world. The new philanthropic platform will not be stopping there. In the upcoming year, Hakkasan Group Inspires will continue restaurant fundraising with a much larger platform, introduce new partnerships, and nourish existing partnerships with even more events.
